EASTER.
TO SISTER.

Oh, joyful, glad Easter morning,
When Jesus arose from the tomb!
Whose radiant light and beauty
Dispelled the darkness and gloom.

The ugly and brown bulb-lily,
Which with care we buried last fall,
In the fertile soil of our door-yard,
Does the Resurrection recall.

We buried it, full believing
'Twould appear again in the spring,
With green leaves and snow-white blossoms--
A lovely and beautiful thing.

So, with equal faith, our dear ones
In the cold ground we lay away;
We think that they, like the lily,
Will appear again some day.

The promise to Martha given,--
"Thy brother shall rise again,"--
Is ours, and firmly we grasp it,
Steadfastly hope, nor complain.

When our near and dear and loved ones
We bury from sight away,
We hope, we know, they shall rise again
On the Resurrection Day.
