compound

A word that consists of two or more elements that independent words, such as loudspeaker, baby-sit, or high school. A closed compound is a compound that contains no intermal white space or hyphens, such as loudspeaker. A hyphenated compound is a compound that contains an internal hyphen, such as baby-sit. An open compound is a compound that contains internal white space, such as high school.
