EUROPEAN AND RELATED LITERATURES

The arrangement of this chapter has been determined by a combination of linguistic and geographical considerations; the reader should consult the Table of Contents for a detailed listing of the national literatures included. Following is a listing of the major chapter divisions: German; Scandinavian; Dutch; French; Italian; Hispanic; Rumanian; Balto-Slavic and other European literatures. Editions or translations of classical texts have been considered primarily in chapter 22 of this Guide; works in Hebrew, Yiddish, and related languages are discussed in chapter 26.
