Guide to the Research Collections
PROVIDENCE (Insurance, Savings, Pensions, etc.)
This is a strong feature in the library, represented by about 30,000 volumes excluding government publications. Most aspects of the subject are collected comprehensively, including material on mutual benefit associations; life, accident, and other insurance; savings and savings banks; building and loan associations; and pensions. Most of the material is from the United States. The substantial resources on health insurance include negative and affirmative arguments on socialized medicine, complemented by official publications from countries and other units having government-sponsored health plans.
A special feature of the holdings is the large number of compilations of laws and national and state reports. Of even greater importance are the reports and separate works issued by organizations in the field. The publications of fraternal orders and benevolent organizations are also noteworthy.
