Manuscripts

In addition to rare printed materials, the library has a rich and extensive collection of manuscripts relating to the Americas, particularly for the period of the American Revolution and for New York State. Collections of the personal papers of prominent United States citizens are also a strong feature of the manuscript resources. The Obadiah Rich collection contains manuscript material and transcripts of archives concerning the administration of Spanish colonies in America. These and other holdings are described in detail in the discussion of the Manuscripts and Archives Division.
