UNITED STATES HISTORY

The collection of about 130,000 books and pamphlets on the history of the United States is one of the most important in the library. It may be categorized as follows:

General history (Billings I-IO)55,800 volumes
State and local history (Billings IQ-IZ)73,800

The above figures represent only the portion of the library's total resources relating to the national, state, and local histories of the United States in political, constitutional, military, religious, and social contexts. The total figures do not include materials which are kept in the Rare Book Division, the Manuscripts and Archives Division, and the other special collections; nor do they include the Public Documents collection in the Economic and Public Affairs Division, works on general church history, or resources in the economic history of the United States.
